100 Klang Pribumi members quit party for Umno

PORT KLANG: A total of 100 Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia members from Klang have left the party and joined Umno, says former Klang Pribumi youth chief Mohd Hazwan Zulkefly.

He said that those who left the party did so because they had lost faith in the party's leadership, adding that they were dissatisfied over the fact that local leaders were not chosen to lead the division.

''The Klang Pribumi division is led by outsiders, not those born in Klang. The local leaders were all dropped and replaced by outsiders who know nothing about the people's concerns and needs," said Mohd Hazwan at a press conference at the Klang Umno service centre here on Sunday (Jan 14) accompanied by 20 former Pribumi Youth members now with Umno.

''We are disillusioned with Pribumi's struggles," he said, adding that the recent naming of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as Pakatan Harapan's prime minister designate as another factor.

Meanwhile, Klang Umno division chief Datuk Nasarruddin M. Zain said that they had received 100 new applications.

''We welcome any youth who wants to join the party. In fact, our doors are open to everyone as we gather our strength to face the coming general election," he said.
