6,000 join Sultan for birthday run
SULTAN of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah and Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim were joined by more than 6,000 people during a special run held at Dataran Pavilion in conjunction with the Sultan's 61st birthday celebration.
Also present at the event in Kuala Kangsar were Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir and his wife Datin Seri Saripah Zulkifli, state secretary Datuk Seri Abdul Puhat Mat Nayan and state executive councillors.
The event which started at 6.30am was part of the celebrations to mark the Sultan’s 61st birthday on Nov 4.
Sultan Nazrin flagged off the run in the 15km, 10km and 7km categories, while the Sultan's youngest sister, Raja Datuk Seri Yong Sofia flagged off the runners in the VIP category.
The number of people who participated in the run exceeded the initial 5,000 expected by Abdul Puhat earlier this month.
According to Abdul Puhat, the run was one of several opportunities for the people to get to know their Ruler better as a host of events was organised by the state government to mark his birthday this year. — Bernama
