Appreciating contemporary Cuban art in Melaka
MELAKA: The Melaka Art Gallery will showcase 42 art works capturing the beauty of Cuba at the Contemporary Cuban Art Exhibition until Feb 28.
The artworks were produced by 21 artists after the Cuban Revolution and the exhibition is held in conjunction with the 59th anniversary of the revolution.
Melaka Governer Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob officiated the exhibition.
Also present was Cuban ambassador Ibete Fernández.
Mohd Khalil said the artworks reflected the beautiful nature of the Cuban culture and its people.
“Cuba has good dancers and its people are very friendly, these traits show in the paintings.
“I urge more Melaka people to come and appreciate these paintings that are here because of the strong relations between Melaka and Cuba,” he said in his speech.
Mohd Khalil, who is an art enthusiast, also urged the state government to continue holding such art exhibitions by inviting artists from other states in the country.
He said he wanted Melaka to be a centre showcasing the rich culture and artworks of both locals and foreigners.
Meanwhile, Hernandez said Malaysia over the years had appreciated and supported Cuban culture and that Melaka was an excellent venue to promote the culture. — Bernama
