Azmin to ‘pray hard’ for Azwan
KLANG: A battle between brothers is expected to take shape in Selangor, which threatens to grow into a one-sided mudslinging match.
While younger brother Azwan Ali is threatening an “exposé” of sorts to “destroy” elder brother Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, the Selangor Mentri Besar is playing it cool and says he wants no part in the sordid drama.
Instead, Azmin told reporters at an event on Wednesday night that he would “pray hard for Azwan”.
“God willing, Allah will save him (so that) he has a good heart for the family,” he said, adding that he would still speak to Azwan because he was his brother.
Azmin also said he would not discuss family matters in public.
“I have been here in PKR and the Opposition bloc for almost two decades to bring a reform agenda. We are not here to discuss family matters,” he said.
When asked if Azwan’s so-called “exposé” would bring him down, Azmin said he believed in the wisdom of the people.
Television host Azwan, well known for his colourful character and dramatic antics, made his presence known at the Umno general assembly when he came to the venue on Wednesday accompanied by controversial Sungai Besar Umno division chief Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos.
Jamal had told reporters that he would pit Azwan against Azmin in the Mentri Besar’s state constituency of Bukit Antarabangsa.
Dressed in a red jubah and ranting incessantly against his brother, Azwan claimed he had “a million and one ideas” to topple Azmin and help Barisan Nasional retake Selangor.
“You think you are great because you are the mentri besar, let me topple you.
“I have been keeping it for five years... what kind of a brother, you won big, I sold my dignity as an artiste... I lost my job, RTM blacklisted me because I came like this and stood behind Azmin Ali before,” Azwan had said.
