Barakah gets RM61mil job to help decommission Petronas-operated field

KUALA LUMPUR: Barakah Offshore Petroleum Bhd has clinched a US$14.28mil (RM61.03mil) contract to help in the decommissioning of the Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas)-operated Chinguetti field, offshore Mauritania.

Barakah, whose businesses range from offshore transportation to pipeline structure and topside de-commissioning, told Bursa Malaysia that its unit PBJV Group Sdn Bhd had received a letter of award from Samling Resources Sdn Bhd to provide well intervention vessel (WIV), support vessel and services for abandonment and decommissioning of the field.

Petronas had bought its stake in the Chinguetti field in late 2007 for US$418mil (RM1.79bil).
According to Barakah, the Chinguetti deepwater field is located about 80km west of the coastline and approximately 90km from the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott.

“The project involves temporary plugging of 15 wells. The contract is for the provision of WIV, platform supply vessel, and all necessary parts, spares, repairs, refurbishments and/or modifications to the WIV and all coordination, technical support and supervisory works in relation thereto,” it said.

The job is expected to start this month.
