Deezer launches lossless audio streaming in desktop music app

Deezer's new desktop app is now streaming music in lossless audio quality, a big step up from the compressed sound typically used in music streaming.

That means all users of the music streaming service can access up to 43 million songs in extremely high quality. Paying subscribers will be able to use the service free of charge until the end of the year.

After this, a Deezer HiFi subscription for streaming in 16 bit FLAC will set you back around US$20 (RM81) per month.

However, those opting for the family plan won't be able access the higher sound quality separately.

Deezer competitor Tidal already offers a lossless streaming option at a higher subscription rate, while Spotify has been rumoured to be planning such a service. — dpa
