Detention room guard charged with murder of two Navy men
MANJUNG: A Royal Malaysian Navy detention room guard was charged at the magistrate's court here with the murder of two seamen at the Sungai Wangi Navy Communications Centre in Sitiawan on Friday.
Mohd Izhrifikri Roslee, 29, was said to have caused the deaths of Nik Muhammad Baihaqy Nik Mat, 28, and Muhammad Lailaltuiman Mohd Sukri, 26, at the training field of the centre between 10.30am and 3.20pm on Sept 29.
No plea was recorded.
Lawyer Zalil Mohd Mess, who held a watching brief for Muhammad Lailaltuiman's family, told the court that representation has been made with the Attorney-General's Chambers to have the case heard in the military court.
"This is because the civil court process will take at least 10 years to complete as compared to the military court process, which takes up significantly less time," he said.
Later in the same court, two other detention room guards, Hamzah Zakaria @Ali and Mohd Farid Musa, were charged with voluntarily causing hurt to the deceased.
Hamzah, 35, claimed trial to separate charges of assaulting the two deceased at the walkway in front of a detention room at about 10.30am on Sept 29.
Meanwhile, Mohd Farid, 32, claimed trial to assaulting Nik Muhammad Baihaqy at the guard post of the detention centre at about 12.30am on Sept 28.
Magistrate Nur Shaqira Ibrahim set bail at RM4,000 with one surety for each charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code brought against Hamzah and Mohd Farid, pending mention on Oct 30.
She also set Dec 12 for mention of the murder charges against Mohd Izhrifikri.
All three accused hold the rank of Leading Rate.
