Elderly woman found dead, son arrested in Kulai
KULAI: A 69-year-old woman was found dead in her kitchen, believed to have been murdered by her mentally-unstable son.
Her lifeless body was discovered by her youngest son at their two-storey home in Jalan Cempaka, Taman Air Bemban here at around 11am on Saturday after he returned from work in Singapore.
It was learnt that the woman, who has two sons and a daughter, had wounds on her face and neck.
Police have not revealed the victim’s name pending investigations.
Kulai OCPD Supt Razak Md Said said the woman's 30-year-old son was arrested near the house at around 1pm.
Asked whether the suspect was mentally ill and had previous criminal records, Supt Razak said that the investigation was ongoing.
A neighbour said the woman lived with her sick husband who has difficulties in walking together with their two sons.
"The youngest son works in Singapore while the elder son has been unemployed since graduating years ago.
"We frequently hear them quarrelling loudly and the elder son always throws things in the house," he claimed.
Another neighbour said the woman and her 70-year-old husband used to operate a coffee shop in the area.
"However, they closed down the shop recently as their health deteriorated," she said.
She added that the victim was a friendly person and would take evening strolls along the street to exercise.
