Institute of Engineering and Management (IEM) President David Lai Kong Phooi said, besides Malaysia, about 300 participants from countries such as South Korea, China, Japan, Australia, India, Pakistan, Holland and Nigeria are expected to attend.

He said the assembly, jointly organised by IEM, FEIAP and the Malaysian Service Providers Confederation, will be held at Casuarina@Meru Hotel.

“It is being held in conjunction with FEIAP’s 40th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of the World Federation of Engineer Organisations (WFEO).

“The event is to promote engineering education, disaster management, smart-city development along with information and communications technology (ICT) to the fraternity and the wider public,” he said.

“The state govenrment is also organising a one-day sight-seeing trip tomorrow around Ipoh and a short visit to University Tunku Abdul Rahman as part of the general assembly’s programme,” he added.

Lai said apart from the assembly, there will also be a dinner and award night for the participants tonight.

“An eminent speaker will deliver a keynote speech on Perak’s development and few distinguished engineers will also be receiving the ‘FEIAP Engineer of the Year’ award in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the engineering profession,” he said.

“Among the dignitaries invited to the dinner include Perak Mentri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu, Union Minister of Construction Myanmar U Han Zaw and WFEO President Dr Marlene Kanga,” he added.

Lai said IEM is ready to support the development of the state in terms of infrastructure development, ICT and tourism.

“It is high time for Perak to gain greater exposure as Ipoh and the state have much more to offer visitors in terms of facilities, conference venues, and retreats,” he said.
