Ex-beauty queen signs up again
PETALING JAYA: Merdeka baby and former Miss Malaysia Thanuja Ananthan has signed up to join the #AnakAnakMalaysia unity walk on Aug 27.
Calling the walk a great initiative, Thanuja said it had brought Malaysians together, regardless of race or creed.
She said she was happy to be invited once again by organisers – the Star Media Group and its partner Eco World Development Group Bhd – to walk for the second time.
“I am generally a very patriotic person. I am not sure if it is because I am a Merdeka baby, but unity, Malaysia and Merdeka are very close to my heart. I am just happy to be able to join a walk that unites us,” she added.
Thanuja said it felt good to see so many friends from the entertainment industry joining the walk last year, including comedian Harith Iskander and actress Chelsia Ng.
Thanuja said it was good that the celebrities supported the cause because they really believed in the message.
“We are all like-minded individuals, so I just hope more will come and join us. The energy level was really high at the walk last year. Everybody was pumped up and all the participants were excited and taking selfies along the way,” Thanuja added.
She is part of the growing list of celebrities joining the #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk 2017 to reinforce their love for a harmonious Malaysia.
In the last three years, influencers from various fields in the education, sports, arts and entertainment sectors have lent their support for the unity walk.
HIV scientist Dr Lyana Khairuddin, cartoonist Reggie Lee, national squash player Mohd Azlan Iskandar, rally driver Karamjit Singh, and football legends Datuk Soh Chin Aun and Datuk Santokh Singh have signed up for this year’s walk.
Organisers are expecting a crowd of 5,000 people.
The #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk 2017 will be held at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam in Selangor on Aug 27.
Participants will gather at the venue at 6.30am for the flag-off.
The registration fee for families (two adults plus two children) is RM80, while the fees for adults (18 years and above) is RM40 and children (12 years and below) is RM15.
