Festival set to feature famous musicians

THE IPOH Music Festival will be held three days next month and classical-music enthusiasts could get the chance to learn and get tips from renowned musicians.

Festival executive director Eugene Pook said the festival will be held at the Syeun Hotel from Sept 15 to 17, and renowned musicians and performers from other countries will be present to meet enthusiasts.

He said among the musicians scheduled to attend the event are violinist Brian Larson from Canada, violist Toko Inomoto from Japan, pianist Dennis Lee, and cellist Leslie Tan.

“We want to provide an opportunity for students, performers and educators from around the world to meet and share their experiences through music,” Pook said in a statement.

“A workshop presented by concert producers and scholars will take place on Sept 16,” he said, adding that the entry fee for the workshop is RM10.

“We hope to enhance the cultural vibrancy of Ipoh through such musical activities and promote a unique musical experience in conjunction with Visit Perak Year 2017,” he added.

Apart from the workshop, Pook said there will also be a classical music competition on Sept 15, gala concerts and tour around Ipoh for participants.

“The opening gala concert on Sept 15 will feature renowned artistes, showcasing solo and chamber works.

“The closing gala concert on Sept 16 will be performed by the competition’s first prize winners,” he said, adding that he expects two thousand people will attend the event.

“The competition’s finalists and artists will also be brought to visit attractions like The Haven Resort, Old Town, Tin Mine Museum and Kellie’s Castle,” he added.
