Finas under MACC probe, says Gobind
PETALING JAYA: The National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) is under investigations for alleged misappropriation of allocations, says Gobind Singh Deo (pic).
The Communications and Multi-media Minister said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) was in the midst of investigating a number of “questionable” allocations for 2017.
This came after MACC officers were seen at Finas headquarters on June 7.
“The MACC should be given room to conduct its investigation into the matter and relevant parties should cooperate with the commission,” he said in a statement.
Gobind also called on the MACC to conduct a thorough investigation into Finas’ past allocations to see whether there were any inconsistencies and weaknesses.
“We welcome any proposals that can strengthen Finas.
“I would like to emphasise that any element of corruption, leakages or abuse of power in any agency or department will not be tolerated,” he said.
He said such elements would weaken the healthy competition in the industry.
Gobind added that it would also disrupt the development and expansion of this creative industry as a whole.
“If investigations show that Finas is guilty of any of these elements, then stern action must be taken legally and internally,” he said.
