Firefox can now stop Instagram and Facebook from tracking you online

Firefox’s anti-tracking tool Facebook Container just got even better at stopping snooping social media platforms from collecting information about you.

With the latest update, Mozilla’s browser extension isolates not only Facebook, but also Instagram and Facebook Messenger by moving them to separate browser windows.

This makes it more difficult for Facebook’s various platforms to track your activities on other websites using so-called third-party cookies – when shopping online, for example. Facebook will, of course, still know what you’re doing on its website.

Facebook Container can be downloaded free of charge, but is only available as an add-on for Firefox browser 57 and higher. It’s currently not available for Android and iOS.

Desktop users will be able to find it by clicking in the Firefox menu, then on “Add-ons”. If you type Facebook Container into the search box, you’ll be able to install it with two clicks. — dpa
