Four teens charged with Nhaveen's murder
GEORGE TOWN: Four teenagers, who allegedly assaulted T. Nhaveen have been charged with his murder at a magistrate's court here.
The accused - J. Ragesuthen, 18, S. Gokulan, 18, a youth aged 17 and another aged 16 - were charged with murdering T. Nhaveen between 11pm and midnight on June 9 in Bukit Gelugor.
The case was originally investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with weapons before being reclassified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
All four accused were charged with murder read together with Section 34 of the same Code.
Section 34 makes a person liable for a criminal act done by several persons as if he had done it himself.
They were brought before magistrate Mohamad Amin Shahul Hamid who fixed Sept 28 for mention.
In another Sessions Court, the accused were also jointly charged with causing grievous hurt to T. Previin who was with Nhaveen when the incident occurred.
R. Praveen, 18, who was arrested together with the four accused, was released on a bond and would serve as a prosecution witness.
DPP Lim Saw Sim prosecuted.
Sessions judge Irwan Suainbon fixed Aug 21 for mention.
Nhaveen passed away at the Penang Hospital at 5.31pm on June 15.
He was found unconscious at around midnight on June 10 at a field next to Jalan Kaki Bukit in Bukit Gelugor.
The youth, who was also sodomised and burnt on his back, suffered internal bleeding in his head and abdomen.
