Free talk in Mentakab on chronic kidney disease
TEMERLOH: A talk on chronic kidney disease will be held this Sunday to create awareness among the public.
Dr Mohd Kamil Ahmad from Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan in Kuantan will be speaking at the event.
Organising chairman Datuk Hiang A Li said the public should not miss this opportunity to learn more about the disease and how to prevent it.
“Renal failure cases are on the rise because of various reasons, including unhealthy food intake and lifestyle.
“The cost of treatment is also rising and many people, especially the poor, are unable to afford it,” he said.
Realising this, the Pahang Buddhist Association (PBA) set up a second haemodialysis centre in Mentakab, after its success in running the first centre in Jalan Bukit Ubi, Kuantan.
He said the new centre would benefit poor patients living in the central region of Pahang.
“We hope it can start operation by early next year,” he said, adding that the talk was one of the many programmes held as a run-up to the opening.
A fund-raising dinner was also planned on Jan 6 to raise RM3mil to help maintain the centre and subsidise the cost of treatments for poor patients.
Hiang is also the adviser for the new centre.
He urged the people to attend the talk and also contribute towards the worthy cause.
The talk will be held at the lecture hall in SMJK Hwa Lian, Mentakab, near here from 10am to 1pm.
Admission is free. Light refreshments will also be served.
