Good news for holidaymakers
THAI Airways will increase its Penang to Bangkok weekly flights from 10 to 14 effective March 23.
Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) marketing manager (Malaysia and Brunei) Richard Lim said there would be two flights daily from March and this will be a boon to travellers from Penang.
“About 3.35 million Malaysians visited Thailand last year, which is an increase of 5% compared to the previous year and the number is set to increase further this year.
“Malaysians are the second highest number of visitors to Thailand after China with nine million last year,” he said at the Amazing Thailand Road Show recently.
Lim said Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Krabi and Pattaya were the more popular destinations.
“Although the ringgit has tumbled, we are still the preferred destination as it is cheaper to travel to Thailand compared to Singapore or Hong Kong.”
TAT executive director (ASEAN, South Asia and South Pacific Region Department) Walailak Noypayak said similar road shows would also be held in Johor Baru and Kuala Lumpur.
The event in Penang, which was attended by tour agents and travel company representatives, also featured a new product presentation and lucky draws.
