Handsome reward awaits thrill seekers with best airborne pose

STAY cool, calm and collected when you are in the air and you might pocket RM1,000.

But it might be easier said than done because you will start with a nearly sheer drop after falling through a trap door.

Then you will experience a couple of G-forces as you slide along the J-curve of ESCAPE Waterplay’s Banana Flip slide.

Next, you will be hurled several metres in the air before landing into a 4.5m-deep pool, and this is where your golden moment is.

A photographer will be waiting to freeze you in his frame.

The one who can strike the best pose while airborne wins the ESCAPE Banana Flip Challenge at the theme park in Teluk Bahang, Penang.

The competition will take place on Sunday and is open to all park visitors, local or foreign, aged 18 and above.

Practice sessions on the Banana Flip will start from noon to 3pm, when all participants can perfect their performance.

The judging starts from 3pm and each registered participant gets one flip to score.

ESCAPE special events consultant Chris Gan said the event was aimed at publicizing and highlighting the water slide, which is inspired by the shape of a banana.

“The curved shape and the vibrant yellow colour will catch the attention of thrill seekers.

“It features a trap door that opens to drop people from a height of 15m and the curved end launches them into the air before they land into a 4.5m-deep diving pool.

“It is during this “air time” that the riders are able to perform stunts like flips and special flying poses.

“The participant with the best flip or pose as judged by a jury panel and the park management, will win a cash prize of RM1,000.

“There will also be other prizes in the form of ESCAPE merchandise,” he announced in a statement yesterday.

Gan added that no fee was required to enter the competition but those who wish to join will need to have a valid entry pass.

“The pass can be purchased in advance from the ESCAPE website or at the gate on the day of the event,” he said, adding that tickets to ESCAPE can be bought online at www.escape.my.
