Incubator space Level Up Inc to spur startups developing games

MDEC has partnered with UOA Group to launch Level Up Inc, an incubator space for startups to develop games.

Offering about 6,000sq ft of floor space, Level Up Inc is located within Komune, a co-working space at Menara UOA, Bangsar South and one of the largest in Klang Valley.

Gaming startups housed in Level Up Inc will have access to development tools, including the Sony PlayStation development kit and HTC Vive developer VR, which are pricey and usually not within the reach of small startups.

“The games development market in Malaysia is growing at an accelerated rate. When we set forth on the journey to nurture this vital economic sector for the region, we were aware that having a world-class development ecosystem is critical for it to thrive,” says MDEC chief operating officer Datuk Ng Wan Peng.

“Working at Level Up Inc means that startups will be exposed to new technologies, training, mentoring and funding to take their idea to the next level.”

The startups will also have access to high speed Internet, meeting rooms, work desks and printers.

According to MDEC vice president of creative content and technologies division Hasnul Hadi Samsudin, currently seven startups are housed in Level Up Inc.

Hasnul says MDEC will be incubating up to 12 games development startups for a period of two years.

The startups will be selected through an advisory panel and must have already published a few games that are successful.

These startups will also gain access to regional and corporate partners such as Google, Sony Interactive Entertainment, Amazon Web Services, Unity Technologies, Tokyo Contents Incubation Centre and Indonesian-based venture fund Discovery Nusantara Capital.
