Let us stand up and be counted

I LIKED reading “Stand up for the country” (Sunday Star, March 19).

We have to give full support for Ekspresi Negaraku which was launched by Prime Minister

Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Saturday.

The campaign strives to inspire Malaysians to appreciate where we live. So let us stand up and be counted.

I love The Star’s stand on moderation. It is spot on in its views and reports. It is time Malaysians make a stand for moderate Malaysia.

The premier was on the mark when he said “embrace diversity to move forward” and “build a harmonious and prosperous nation”.

Well said, prime minister.

We should be “one for all, and all for one”. That should be our voice from now on. We should always stand for all communities. And, our voices should be voices of moderation.

Today, all communities, however small their number, matter. The poor in any community in Malaysia should be attended to. In this regard, especially, we must be colour-blind.

We do not see only pockets of Malays who are poor but also know of Chinese and Indians in the same position.

There are poor people in the Punjabi community but few talk about them. We need to bring all of these people out of poverty, and I believe that the premier’s Barisan Nasional can do it.

The key to success is moderation. We need to forge greater race relations always, not only during festive celebrations.
