MPK urged to rectify shoddy drain job
KOTA Alam Shah assemblyman’s special officer S. Suman who supervises the area, wants Klang Municipal Council (MPK) to order its appointed contractor to redo drains that were not constructed according to specifications.
“Taman Melawis residents will not tolerate slipshod work of the new drainage along Lorong Besi.
“According to residents, the drain culverts are being laid above the drain outlets.
“People can see that the culverts are not aligned to the drain outlet.
“Consequently, it will block the kitchen and other wastewater drainage. MPK’s Engineering Department must rectify this,” he said.
Suman stressed that the drain culverts that had been laid must be removed and the trench be dug deeper to allow proper setting of the new drains.
“People living in the terrace houses are upset. All of them want the MPK president, Datuk Mohamad Yasid Bidin, to look into this matter.
“There will be no cover-up, all works must be done according to specifications for a smooth flow of water,” he said.
Suman added that the new drainage was supposed to help improve the flow of water and run off surface water during rains.
“I will personally monitor the construction of the drains until the project is completed,” he said.
On Sept 19, StarMetro reported that Taman Melawis residents were frustrated that the drains in the neighbourhood were like scupper drains and unable to accommodate the intense rainwater.
Drainage and Irrigation Department has a flood mitigation plan costing RM10.4mil in the pipeline to resolve flash floods in the area.
