Mavcom aware of added fees

WE refer to the letter “Make listing of flight fees and taxes mandatory” (The Star, April 12). The Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) would like to state that it continuously conducts checks on all domestic airlines and note that airlines do indeed display a breakdown of the taxes and fees charged to flight fares.

These breakdowns are displayed either upfront or via a clickable “Taxes and Fees” section within the price summary, depending on the airline.

With regard to certain carriers charging additional fees on top of the base fare, Mavcom is aware of this and is currently in the midst of reviewing the proposed amendments to the Malaysian Aviation Consumer Protection Code. These new amendments will address ongoing concerns raised by consumers pertaining to additional fees levied by airlines.

Through these amendments, Mavcom aims to set a higher standard in terms of clear, transparent displays for air fare prices as part of the Commission’s focus and commitment to helping Malaysian air travellers.
