Missing man caught in Hulu Langat floods found dead

PETALING JAYA: A man who was feared drowned after he was swept away by flood waters in Hulu Langat on Saturday was found dead by the search and rescue team.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director Mohd Sani Harul said the man, identified as Taufik Alias, 23, was found at 2.54pm on Monday at Tanjung Niah, a kilometre away from the National Youth Skills Institute (IKBN) in Dusun Tua.

Mohd Sani said the remains of the victim were sent to Serdang Hospital.

A 44-second video recording which went viral on social media on Saturday showed the victim being swept by strong currents towards Sungai Serai after a downpour.

Several onlookers are seen shouting and telling the victim to swim to safety.

In the video, a man in a black shirt is also seen trying to help the victim.

The victim was then seen floating for several metres before his helmet came off.

He is believed to have been swept to the river while trying to hold onto his submerged motorcycle.

On Saturday, the Fire and Rescue Department received a call about the flash floods along the banks of Sungai Hulu Langat at 3.50pm.

More than a hundred people were evacuated.
