Mr DIY sets up shop in Mid Valley Megamall

HOME improvement retailer Mr DIY rolled out its first flagship store at Mid Valley Megamall in Kuala Lumpur with a grand launch.

The event saw corporate friends and business partners gathering to catch the opening of the store and a lion dance was held to bring the store an abundance of prosperity and luck.

The homegrown retail chain’s 360th store in Malaysia sprawls across 1,393.5sq m of space on the mall’s third floor mezzanine, offering 20,000 product varieties across nine departments – household, hardware, electrical, car accessories, toys, stationery, gifts, sports as well as jewellery and cosmetics.

“Mr DIY is proud to establish a strategic presence here at Mid Valley Megamall.

“This is an important milestone for Mr DIY’s growth in the region as we strive towards our vision of becoming the largest home improvement retailer in Asia Pacific,” said Mr DIY Trading Sdn Bhd marketing head Andy Chin.

The flagship store boasts fresh concepts and premium design including a hexagon bolt nut-shaped ceiling net in the middle, symbolising Mr DIY’s commitment to taking the conventional home improvement industry to another level, he added.

“Themed ‘Feel the Difference’, the store’s spacious built-up and ample walkways will provide shoppers an enjoyable and easy-to-navigate visit,” said Chin.

He shared that they expected the new flagship store to be one of the company’s top five in terms of generating sales revenue.

“We foresee it will drive a monthly footfall of 200,000 customers,” he said, adding that an estimated RM2mil had been invested in the store.

On upcoming plans to open other flagship stores, Chin said the company would be looking into other states and Klang Valley would have the exclusivity of one flagship store.

Speaking about the company’s expansion plans for 2018, Chin said this year would be an exciting time for Mr DIY as it had four major goals to achieve.

“We are targeting a total of 300 new stores across Asia Pacific, with 150 in Malaysia alone.

“Next, we are looking at expanding our reach into two new countries, Singapore and the Philippines within the second half of the year while we are set to launch the Mr DIY e-commerce platform in the third quarter,” said Chin, adding that the new flagship store was also one of the company’s goals achieved this year.

Meanwhile, Chin shared that the retail chain had recorded more than RM1bil in revenue last year.

“Promoting our brand value of affordable pricing, Mr DIY serves 110 million customers per year and the numbers are increasing rapidly.

“This year, we are looking at about 40% increase in revenue compared with 2017,” concluded Chin.

From its humble beginnings as a hardware store in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Kuala Lumpur in July 2005, Mr DIY has now more than 450 stores throughout Malaysia and Asia Pacific, which includes Thailand, Indonesia and Brunei.
