Najib: ECRL construction to boost economic growth in Pahang
KUANTAN: Pahang's economy is projected to grow by 1.5% with the construction of the East Coast Rail Line (ECRL), said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak (pic).
The Prime Minister said the railway line, to be launched on Aug 9, would be the latest addition to a slew of projects that would develop the state.
"We have a lot of exciting things happening in Pahang. There's the Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park, the expansion of Kuantan Port and the greater connectivity of the ECRL.
"But please remember that for these exciting things to happen, you need the present government to continue," he said at the opening ceremony of the Pahang branch campus of Tunku Abdul Rahman University College here Saturday.
The new campus was opened by Pahang Regent Tengku Mahkota Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.
MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the purpose-built campus would offer courses which complement the human capital needs of the new developments and industries in the vicinity.
"For a start, Pahang branch campus will be offering the Diploma in Business Studies (Accounting), Diploma in Business Studies (Business Administration) and Diploma in Science (Information Systems Engineering).
"Moving forward, the branch campus will be rolling out a number of specialised programmes in railway technology, engineering, business, logistics and ICT at diploma and Bachelor's degree levels over the next five years," he said.
Also present were Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Dr Mary Yap.
