PLUS does not have enforcement rights on the highway

WE refer to the letter “PLUS should ban trucks that spill sand” (The Star, April 6).

PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) would like to clarify that PLUS, being a highway concession company, has no enforcement rights to stop these types of lorries from entering the highway but we share the same concern on the impact of these incidents on the safety of highway users.

As such, we continuously cooperate with the relevant authorities such as the Police, Road Transport Department and the Land Public Transport Commission to curb such incidents by facilitating the conduct of joint operations and collaborations to inspect heavy vehicles ferrying various types of consignments on the highways.

Additionally, we do undertake road cleaning on a regular basis to clear debris for safer and smoother travel on the expressways.

We also regularly conduct awareness programmes and discussions with lorry and fleet operators on the benefits for them to take extra efforts to ensure their vehicles are in good condition, well maintained and consignments safely secured at all times.

PLUS welcomes users to contact the toll-free PLUSLine at 1800 88 0000 for immediate action on safety concerns while travelling on our highway.
