Plantation worker allegedly rapes underage girl, then offers to marry her

KOTA KINABALU: A plantation worker was arrested for having sex with an underage girl in the east coast Kinabatangan district.

The 19-year-old had allegedly raped the girl twice, the first time on May 5 and the second time about a week later. He was arrested on Wednesday (May 16).

In the May 5 incident, he had met with the girl outside her house and took her into her room while her family was asleep.

The girl in her police report claimed that she had tried fighting him off but he persisted and raped her.

The man allegedly told her that he would marry her following the incident.

She said on May 12, they had sex again, but at a plantation behind her house.

The girl’s family found them together in the second incident, but the man managed to flee.

On May 15, the girl decided to lodge a police report after the man’s family allegedly refused to take responsibility for his action.

He was nabbed at about 10am the next day.

District police chief Superintendent A. Sahak Rahmat confirmed the report and said the case is being investigated for statutory rape.
