Plenty of travel promotions up for grabs at MATTA Fair

THE biannual Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Fair to be held in Ipoh this March will see the participation of the Indonesian Tourism Ministry.

Organising chairman Mohamad Hisam Mohamad Yusof said it will be the first time a foreign country is taking part in the fair in Perak.

“This year is Visit Indonesia Year and they are going all out to promotevisit to Indonesia by Malaysians.

“They will be promoting all of their travel destinations from Yogyakarta to Surabaya,” he said during a press conference on Tuesday.

Mohamad Hisam said the fair will be held at Ipoh Parade shopping centre from March 16 to 18, from 10am to 10pm.

“There will be 86 booths, with 81 allocated to tour and travel agencies and the remaining five booths are for hotels, banks and insurance agencies.

“Some 74 booths have already been taken up,” he said, adding that the fair also coincides with the MATTA Fair in Kuala Lumpur.

Mohamad Hisam, who is also MATTA Perak Chapter treasurer, said the association raked in over RM80mil in sales from its two fairs last year.

We achieved sales of RM35mil and RM46mil for the fairs held last March and September, respectively

“For this coming fair, we are projecting sales of about RM30mil to RM35mil,” he said.

As in previous fairs, holidaymakers who spend a minimum of RM300 will be eligible to enter a lucky draw.
