Raub BN leaders gather ahead of general election
RAUB: About 200 grassroot leaders from Raub Barisan Nasional came together for an informal gathering to display unity and strength ahead of the coming general election.
The event was organised by Pahang MCA deputy chairman and Raub MCA division chief Tan Sri Lam Kam Sang.
Among those present were Raub Umno division chief Datuk Seri Shahiruddin Ab Moin, deputy chief Datuk Abdul Aziz Mat Kiram, MCA vice-president Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun, Raub public complaints bureau head Ng Leap Pong and representatives from Barisan component parties.
In his speech, Shahiruddin said it was high time all parties worked closely together to defeat the Opposition.
“Let’s strengthen our resolve, fighting spirits and election machinery from now on. We must act as one team and give our best service to the people so that we can wrest back Raub parliamentary and Tras state seats,” he said.
Shahiruddin, who is a Pahang senior executive councillor, urged the people to support all Barisan candidates once they were made known.
Chew is tipped to contest in Raub while Ng will go for Tras.
Both MCA leaders have been actively helping to resolve pressing issues on the ground over the last two years.
In the last general election, both Raub and Tras were won by DAP, while Shahiruddin and Abdul Aziz retained Dong and Batu Talam seats, respectively.
Meanwhile, Lam said Shahiruddin was a true leader of the grassroots and worked hard to serve and unite people of all races.
He said the losses in GE13 were because of their own shortcomings.
“Most pledges were not fulfilled. It is time to look forward and give Barisan and MCA a chance to make amends and deliver results,” he said.
