Shuttler Zii Jia crashes out of Swiss Open
PETALING JAYA: Shuttler Lee Zii Jia's challenge is over at the Swiss Open after crashing out in the men's singles first round in Basel.
On Wednesday, eighth seed Zii Jia slumped to a 15-21, 14-21 defeat to former world No. 2 Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark.
The Dane is making a comeback after struggling last year because of a foot injury.
Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin and Soong Joo Ven kept the Malaysian flag flying when they marched into the second round in contrasting styles.
Iskandar had to dig deep into his reserves to beat Eetu Heino of Finland 21-23, 21-14, 21-10 while Joo Ven defeated Adulrach Namkul of Thailand 24-22, 21-19.
Iskandar faces Jorgensen next while Joo Ven takes on Suppanyu Avhingsanon of Thailand.
In the men's doubles, only Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik are left standing after winning their opening round match with a 16-21, 21-19, 21-7 win over Titon Gustaman-Lisa Iversen.
They will face Mark Lamsfuss-Marvin Emil Seidel of Germany in the second round.
Shia Chun Kang-Tan Wee Gieen crashed out with a 9-21, 19-21 defeat to top seeds Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen of Denmark.
