‘Smart city’ for Felda settlement
KUALA LUMPUR: The Felda 2.0 programme will see the Federal Land Development Authority create a “smart city” at the Felda Lurah Bilut settlement in Bentong, Pahang next year, says its chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad.
The pilot project will cost RM10mil and it will be extended to other Felda settlements in the country, he added.
“The smart city will bring a paradigm shift to the commodity-based business model within Felda,” he said after a dialogue with the Felda community under the National Transformation 50 programme here yesterday.
Shahrir said Felda needed to move on to newer business models like a smart city, where the community can generate income through Internet-based business models.
To ensure the success of the Felda smart city, he said it needed a change in the mindset of the third and fourth generation of settlers who will inherit the land from their parents.
The smart city project in Lurah Bilut will be launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak early next year.
Felda 2.0 is a digital transformation project that will see the upgrading of Internet infrastructure in the Felda settlements.
Earlier, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, who also attended the dialogue, said Malaysians should not be too swift in their criticism of the national football team over its losses in the Asian Federation Cup series recently.
He said the problem lies within the football management structure itself.
