Spotlight on beauty of cheongsam

MISS and Mrs Chipao (Cheongsam) Malaysia 2018 and International Chipao Queen 2018 pageants are returning for the fourth time this year.

This was announced by Miss Malaysia Kebaya (MMK) and Miss Kebaya World (MKW) president and founder Jason Hee Jee Pin in Sunway Resort Hotel and Spa, Bandar Sunway.

The pageants are jointly organised by MMK, MKW, Sunway Group and One Caring Heart Malaysia.

In conjunction with One Caring Heart Malaysia’s Community Leadership Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Excellence Awards, the event takes on the theme “Beauty With A Caring Heart”.

Hee said the main purpose of the pageants was to raise funds for those in need as well as preserve the tradition and heritage of local cultures.

“With the support that we have following Miss and Mrs Malaysia Kebaya 2018, there will be a series of cultural pageants such as Miss Saree Malaysia and Miss Asia Automotive Ambassador Pageant in conjunction with Motonation 2018,” he said.

Hee added that the organisers hoped to create a platform and provide an opportunity for young, inspired women to showcase their talents and explore the modelling industry as they would be trained professionally.

Also present at the press conference was Sunway Group Exco member Puan Sri Susan Cheah.

“This event is organised with the intention to enhance collaboration among non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and to appreciate community leaders in line with the objectives of One Caring Heart Malaysia.

“Through its activities, One Caring Heart Malaysia has raised funds to support the education sector including universities and the development of culture.

“This time around, we will be donating 20% of the funds raised through the beauty pageants,” she said.

The event will begin its selection process through auditions at the MMK office in Scott Garden, Kuala Lumpur, and through online search on Facebook until Feb 15.

The organisers are expecting 80 to 100 prospective candidates.

Ten finalists from each three pageant categories – Miss Chipao Malaysia 2018, Mrs Chipao Malaysia 2018, and International Chipao Queen 2018 – will vie for the titles this year, in the grand final, which will be hosted by Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa at its Grand Lagoon Ballroom on April 1.

Emerald Brilliant, a pioneer in the local cheongsam industry with 40 years of experience, has been sponsoring the traditional Chinese attire worn during the event for the past five years and will continue to do so for this year’s edition.

The beauty and cultural pageants are supported by the Tourism and Culture Ministry.

International Chipao Queen 2018 is open to women of all ethnicities aged between 21 and 60 years old. The minimum height requirement is 160cm.

Prizes worth up to RM50,000 in total await winners and finalists of the traditional Chinese dress-themed beauty pageant.
