Suspect found hanged in Selama police station lock-up

IPOH: A suspect is believed to have hanged himself at the Selama police station lock-up 120 kilometres from here.

Selama OCPD Deputy Supt Loo Lian Lay said Nizam Idris, 39, from Bagan Baru, Batu Kurau, was found hanged in his cell at about 9.30am.

"He was alone during the incident.

"He was last seen alive at 8.48am, when he asked for some padding from the lock-up officer. His request was rejected," he said.

DSP Loo said police checked CCTV footage and found that the deceased had hanged himself using his lock-up attire from the cell's grilles.

"His death was confirmed by a medical officer from the Selama Hospital," he said.

"Magistrate Judge Raja Shahril Anuar Raja Banjamin was also present to check the body and ordered a post-mortem to be conducted on the body," he added.

DSP Loo said the deceased had been remanded for four days since March 14 for investigations under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

The matter will be classified as sudden death, he said.
