Syed Saddiq: Agent provocateurs at Nothing to Hide not from Pribumi
SHAH ALAM: The agent provocateurs at the Nothing to Hide 2.0 forum featuring Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Sunday were not Pribumi members, said Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.
The Pribumi Youth chief said that although the troublemakers were wearing red t-shirts with the Armada logo, these t-shirts were not officially commissioned by the party.
"They wore Armada t-shirts, but an early investigation indicates that they were not from Armada. You can see that they were wearing t-shirts with the Armada logo covered in black. We don't have these t-shirts," he said while holding a t-shirt that was taken off one of the alleged perpetrators.
Syed Saddiq expressed disappointment at the incident which took place around 5.30pm, as Dr Mahathir was answering a question from the audience on the Memali tragedy in 1985.
He called for swift action to be taken against those who instigated the violence by throwing chairs, bottles, flares and other projectiles in the direction of the stage, where Dr Mahathir and forum moderator Azhar Harun were seated.
He also called for action against any party members who responded to the incident with further physical acts of violence.
"If there are any Pribumi members who also conspired with politics of revenge or vigilante justice, then we hope police will also take action against them and throw them in jail. A wrong is a wrong," he added.
Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Shafien Mamat later confirmed that three people aged 17, 18, and 19 were arrested in connection with the incident. Two of them were college students.
