Growing up in the big city, actress Nelydia Senrose always loved going back to her parents’ hometown in Kelantan.
“My mum’s kampung overlooks the padi fields while my dad’s house is by the beach. It’s special because these are two elements you can’t find in Kuala Lumpur,” Nelydia says.
The 23-year-old actress, who shot to fame with the 2012 drama series Setia Hujung Nyawa, says her must-have Raya dish is ketupat and rendang.
Her fondest memory of Hari Raya is the atmosphere of cooking with a big group of relatives, especially with her late grandmother. “It was priceless. I can never get back that experience.”
Nelydia – who has two other sisters in showbiz, Uqasha Senrose and Raysha Rizrose – also shares an important family tradition: “We gather around on the first day of Raya and the young ones will go to the elders in my family to salam.
“It’s important because it means every mistake is forgiven. It’s the start of a new chapter.”
