Two die in landslip disaster
KOTA MARUDU: Two men on a motorcycle died after they plunged down a collapsed section of the Marak Parak-Ranau road in Sabah's interior.
The two were identified as Jaimin Bien, 46,from Kampung Tandahawon and Edmon James, 22, from Kampung Melangkap in Kota Marudu district.
Kota Marudu police chief Supt Mohd Izaan Abdullah said that the two had fallen into the ravine before they were covered by further landslips on KM36 along the relatively new road that links Ranau to northern Kota Marudu district.
He said police received a call at 7.20am Friday, and firemen and Public Works Department personnel rushed to the scene.
"The firemen managed to pull out the bodies about two hours later," he said.
The first body was recovered at 8.38am and the second at 9.28am.
Supt Izaan said that the landslip is believed to have occurred due to continuous rainfall in the area over the last two days.
