US tourist has near miss in Limbang River
MIRI: An elderly American tourist had a near miss in the Limbang River when his boat capsized near the jetty.
Jonathan Wayne Selby, 72, managed to swim ashore in the 5pm Thursday evening incident.
Limbang Fire and Rescue Department personnel helped him salvage his belongings and also provided him with temporary accommodation.
This is the second time Selby has been involved in a river incident.
On Sept 12 last year, he was sailing in a houseboat along a 1,000km water-route from Brunei to Kuching when it got stuck in the middle of the Limbang River.
Selby was rescued by department personnel.
The houseboat got trapped after it was entangled in the chains of a passing timber barge.
Selby, who is from New Jersey, has been travelling here since August last year.
His houseboat did not have an engine and relied totally on the river current and wind to move.
