Vell Paari: Stop sharing photos, videos of fire victims

PETALING JAYA: MIC has urged the public not to share images of victims of the fire in Taman Datuk Keramat on social media.

"Please feel some pity and compassion for the families when these pictures are posted on social media. This is not right," MIC tresurer-general Datuk Seri S. Vell Paari (pic) said in a statement.

He was responding to photographs and videos showing bodies and charred remains that were being widely circulated, particularly on social messaging platform WhatsApp.

Expressing his condolences to the families, Vell Paari said it was time for Kuala Lumpur City Hall and the Fire and Rescue Department to identify the religious schools which do not comply with safety standards.

"Help them and get them to comply to safety standards accordingly so that this kind of incident will not happen again," he said.

The 5am fire at Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah tahfiz killed at least 21 students and two teachers. Three were reported to be in critical condition.
