‘Baba Nyonya’ actor Kenny Chan dies at 68

Veteran actor Datuk Kenny Chan has died. He was 68.
When contacted, his wife Fern Loo confirmed Chan passed away at a hospital in Melaka on Tuesday (June 12) evening.
“He was hospitalised on Monday due to a lung infection. We thought he would recover,” she said.
Chan has three children; sons Darrick, Allen and Shalyn.
Chan was famous for his role as Bibik Kim Neo in TV1’s Baba Nyonya. His co-star was Chee Hood Siong, who played Bibik Kim Neo’s best friend Ah Chim. Chee passed away in 2011.
The comedy series is certified by the Malaysian Book Of Records as the longest-running TV series in the country, lasting from the late 1980s till 2000, with 509 episodes in total.
After the show ended, Chan would dress up as his iconic character again for a cameo in Namewee’s Nasi Lemak 2.0.
Chan was passionate about Peranakan cuisine and opened a restaurant, Big Nyonya, in Melaka.
