‘This is all new to me’: Actress Elfira Loy on her recent controversy-filled period
Elfira Loy is going through a trying time.
In the last five months, the 24-year-old actress has been the subject of a spate of controversies.
It started in February when news hit that Elfira and singer Sufian Suhaimi had broken off their engagement. For weeks, the cause of their break-up was widely speculated.
Then in April, Elfira backed a height growth supplement, which saw her being taken to task by doctors.
Most recently, a netizen accused Elfira for wrecking the marriage of fellow celebs Nazim Othman and Bella Dally.
Elfira, who started acting when she was 13, talks about the controversy-laden months she’s been experiencing: “I’ve been in the industry for 11 years, and yet all this is new to me.”
She adds she has worked hard to keep controversies at bay all these years. “It feels uncomfortable. For a long time, I’ve always been trying to keep a clean track record and focus on doing my work sincerely.”
Elfira also believes it is important to reflect on herself and not blame others for what’s happening.
“When things like this happen, I’ve learned the best thing to do is to keep quiet and let people think what they want,” she says.
She did however respond to a netizen’s tweet accusing her of coming between Nazim and Bella.
“I responded because I thought that was really ridiculous. When it comes to social media, there are two kinds of people – people who say things because they think they are true and others who just want to say it and see if someone retweets it. So I wanted to ask that person why he or she is doing it,” Elfira explains.
But the actress says it warms her heart when she sees netizens owning up to their mistakes.
“There are a lot of people who DM (direct messaged) me and say they’re sorry for what they commented publicly in the past. So then I know there’s goodness in people.”
Commenting on Nazim and Bella’s divorce, Elfira, who is friends with both of them, has yet to reach out to either party.
“I want to give them both their space. I respect their decision. I don’t know why they chose to part ways, but I trust that decision they made is the best for both of them.”
